Composition:
Rabeprazole Sodium 20 mg & Domperidone B.P. 30 mg (10 mg immediate release + 20 mg sustained release) capsules |
| Mechanism of action |
Rabeprazole belongs to class of proton pump inhibitors which suppress gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the gastric H+ / K+ ATPase at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cells. It does not exhibit anticholinergic or anti histamininc properties.
Domperidone is a derivative of benzimidazole that possesses both prokinetic & anti emetic properties due to inhibitory action at dopamine D2 receptors. |
| Indication |
Co- existing Reflux and Dyspepsia
Recurrent GERD
Post operative Emesis
Stress induced APD
|
| Dosage |
Once daily |
| Side effects |
Adverse events with rabeprazole are mild to moderate intensity and include malaise, diarrhoea, nausea, skin eruptions, headache and dizziness.
Domperidone has been found to be associated with increased serum prolactin which may be associated with galactorrhea, less frequently gynaecomastia, breast enlargement and soreness. Reduced libido has been reported.
Occasional rashes and other allergenic phenomena are also reported. Domperidone does not readily cross the normally functioning blood brain barrier and is therefore less likely to interfere with the central dopaminergic function.
However, acute extrapyramidal dystonic reactions have been reported with domperidone. |
| Contraindications |
Cyra-D is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to rabeprazole, substituted benzimidazole , domperidone or to any component of the formulation. |
